Boyd Street Bash

7/20/2010 - This past Saturday the newest PPD community coordnator partcipated in a neioghborhood party.. She tells us that the EBNO & Cultivating Communities served food, much of it was brought by people living in the neighborhood & made from veggies, etc from the community garden. There were several activities for the kids. Officer Gayle Petty was present as well. The PD community policing coordinator was contacted by several children during the event in regards to problems in the community, primarily the playground. Their concerns were: swearing, cigarette smoking, older people hanging out various times of the day & night drinking, leaving glass in the playground, smoking pot, and asking some younger teens if they wanted to get raped. One child's bike was taken, the coordinator & other children helped locate it. The coordinator spoke to the kids about making sure they ask the person who the bike belongs to if they can borrow it & not just take off with the bike. The day ended up being productive as the department was able to talk to the children and parents of the community!
