Officer Anthony Ampezzan |
Officer Anthony Ampezzan is our newest Senior Lead Officer. He was raised in the Detroit, Michigan, area and graduated from St. Francis Cabrini High School in 1996. That same year he enrolled at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan where he majored in political science. While at college, Officer Ampezzan received a Naval ROTC scholarship and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy upon graduating in 2000.
In 2000, Officer Ampezzan commenced flight training with the Navy. He was "winged" as a Naval Flight Officer in 2001 and eventually assigned to Patrol Squadron Ten at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine. There he completed three deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His final assignment in the active duty Navy was as a flight school instructor in Pensacola, Florida.
Officer Ampezzan was hired by the Portland Police Department in January of 2008. He attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's Basic Law Enforcement School and, upon his return to the department, was assigned to the Midtown/Bayside area. He then was assigned to the Evening Directed Patrol Unit where Officer Ampezzan was recognized for his proactive efforts to address robberies, liquor law enforcement and gang activity. Following the dissolution of the Evening Directed Patrol Unit, Officer Ampezzan served on the B-team (afternoon/evening shift). There he was involved in Probation and Domestic Violence sweeps and continued his work with liquor enforcement. Officer Ampezzan now works in the Parkside and Westside neighborhoods, including Reiche Elementary and King Middle School. He can be seen patrolling in a vehicle, on foot or on a bicycle.
Officer Ampezzan spends his off-duty time with his girlfriend and dog and recently bought a home in the area. He has participated in the Port-Sports Adult Athletic League and regularly attends the First Friday Art walk.
